our story

Hi, it's me, Areesha, founder of My Cactus Romance. When I first launched this beloved enterprise, people who know me were fairly surprised. For most of my life, I had been afflicted with a "Black Thumb", having failed to keep my enthusiastically purchased plants alive and healthy on three separate occasions. I had decided plants just weren't "my thing".

Enter J, my husband and a cactus-aficionado since he was a toddler. Alright, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but J has been keeping and taking excellent care of succulents, cacti and houseplants since he was about 15. When we got married, I didn't know the first thing about keeping his little plant babies alive. In no time, though, I realised it's not a black-thumb-vs-green-thumb situation - you just need someone to hold your hand for a little while. Within those first few weeks, I fell in love with all his little (and big) plant babies like they were my own.

The idea of starting My Cactus Romance came very organically to us. I also knew that I wanted to focus on the planter as much as the plant. While J was making sure all our plants were in excellent health, I wanted to make sure our planters would work for your taste and aesthetic. It gives me such pure joy to create something with my own two hands, from making the planters, to painting and sealing them, to planting in them, all the way to hand-packaging every single planter that goes out. Most importantly, though, I wanted to be the source of the same joy I got. I wanted to hold other people's hands.

So that's where we are now: a woman-owned business aiming to make Pakistan greener - one pretty planter at a time.
